Caring for Your Sighthound

Sighthounds are not like other dogs. Greyhounds, whippets and lurchers carry a deep prey drive, a sensitive nature, and a body built for the sprint rather than the long haul. At The Sighthound Guy, every part of the care is shaped around how these dogs actually think and move, so your hound is genuinely understood and not just looked after.

Run by Don Jordan in NW London, there are two services for owners who want the highest standard for their dog: relaxed home boarding, and an intensive Residential Recall programme. Sighthounds only, serving the whole of London, with collection around Hampstead, North Finchley and Highgate and daily walks on Hampstead Heath.

What good sighthound care looks like

The best care for a sighthound is calm, structured and breed-aware. That means a settled home rather than a kennel, exercise that respects the breed group’s stamina and recovery, and a handler who reads the prey-drive response instead of fighting it.

Boarding built around your dog

Every stay starts with a meet and greet and a one-night assessment, so the care is tailored to your individual hound before any longer booking. The home is licensed for eight dogs, and the focus stays firmly on the sighthound group rather than a busy mix of breeds.

Boarding is priced nightly by weight, with raw food included throughout. Up to 20kg is £77 a night, 20.5 to 30kg is £80, and 30.5kg and over is £83, with a minimum stay of 24 hours.

Recall training that comes home with the stay

Residential Recall is a separate, intensive programme, a minimum of seven nights from £850, so your dog learns properly while they stay rather than coming back with nothing to show for it. Sighthounds respond to lower repetition and higher reward, and the work centres on the Big Six commands: Recall, Stay, Wait, Sit, Down and Heel.

You stay involved throughout, and you go home with a clear plan to keep building on the progress.

Care you can trust

Your dog is in qualified, accountable hands. The Sighthound Guy holds a 5-star home boarding licence, number 2023-2989, is Canine First Aid certified, and is fully insured and bonded.
