Why This Exists

You cannot punish panic, and you cannot love it away

Sighthounds are over-represented in separation problems for honest reasons: ex-racers have never been alone in their lives, the breed bonds hard to its people, and the settling-in advice most owners get - 'just let him cry it out' - is flooding, which makes panic worse, not better.

This course is the structured alternative: understand what separation distress actually is, film and assess your own dog properly, build the independence foundations inside the home, then run the graduated absence programme step by step, with clear rules for progress, plateaus and setbacks. It is slow. It works. Those two facts are related.

The Course

Six modules. Everything in order.

Understand, assess, build foundations, run the programme, integrate real life, maintain. Skipping to the programme without the assessment and foundations is why most attempts fail.

Module 1

Understanding the Velcro Dog

What separation distress is and is not, why sighthounds and ex-racers are over-represented, the spectrum from clinginess to panic, and the principles of the fix.

Module 2

Assessment and Baseline

The camera assessment protocol, reading the footage for distress signals, finding the threshold in seconds or minutes, and the differential checklist.

Module 3

Foundations of Independence

The settle-away skill, breaking the shadowing habit kindly, barrier calm, the relaxation bed, and the household patterns that build (or sabotage) independence.

Module 4

The Graduated Absence Programme

The absence ladder in detail: session structure, the saw-tooth progression, camera criteria for moving up, and managing real life around the programme.

Module 5

Departure Cues and the Fine Detail

Desensitising pre-departure cues, environment design for absences, the role of sound and scent, second pets, and technology used well.

Module 6

Maintenance, Setbacks and the Long Term

Graduating to real-world durations, the maintenance schedule, the setback playbook, life-change planning, and when to bring in more help.

Is This Course Right for You

This course is for you if...

Your sighthound panics, vocalises, destroys or toilets when left
Your ex-racer has never been alone and you want to build it right from the start
Your dog shadows you room to room and cannot settle out of your sight
You are willing to control absences during the programme - this is the hard part
You want a method based on graduated exposure, not gadgets or wishful thinking

This course is not for you if

You need the problem gone by next week - real desensitisation is measured in weeks and months
You cannot manage absences at all during training - the programme requires it
You want punishment-based fixes - punishing panic reliably makes it worse
